About DenverJUG
DenverJUG is a free, informal, volunteer-run group for Java developers and enthusiasts in the Denver area. Like most groups like it, DenverJUG runs on community participation, and we rely on members showing up, sharing what they know, and pitching in with ideas for how to keep things useful for everyone involved.
The Java language is an amazing tool and we help people expand their abilities in it.
History
DenverJUG has been meeting for a long time, when the group formed as a venue for developers to talk through the language, its APIs, and the applications people were building with it. The technology has changed a lot since then, but the basic idea of developers getting together to learn from each other hasn’t.
Mission
Our goal is straightforward: help people learn and get better with Java and the surrounding ecosystem, give developers a place to trade ideas, support mentoring between more and less experienced members, and keep a community going for Java developers in and around Denver.
Membership
There’s no cost and no formal sign-up process to be part of DenverJUG. Showing up to a meeting is really all it takes. We’d also encourage anyone interested to join the mailing list to stay in the loop between events.
Board and Volunteers
DenverJUG is run by volunteers. The board is elected each year by the membership, and board members are generally on hand at meetings if you have feedback, ideas, or want to get more involved.
Speakers
We’re always looking for people willing to speak at a meeting, whether it’s a deep technical topic or something more introductory. Talks work best when they come from people who actually use the technology they’re presenting on, rather than a sales pitch. Our audience is developers looking for practical, hands-on knowledge. If you’re interested in speaking, reach out and let us know what you’d like to cover; we typically plan several months ahead.
